For all of our group members, our BioBlitz experience was rained out. This impacted one our group member’s observation of birds, as the birds flew away from the rain. We wondered if any other factors would alter avian behavior. So, for our poster we settled on if there was a relationship between sounds of the city and bird song duration. We observed ten parks, collecting multiple data samples of bird songs from various species. We then compared this to the recorded level of decibels of sounds of the overall park.
Contrary to our hypothesis, our observations found that there is a weak correlation between urban noise and bird song durations, but we did discover that there is a wide variety of bird species in New York City.
