Queens Community District 7

Queens Community District 7 consists of Flushing, Flushing, Bay Terrace, College Point, Whitestone, Malba, Beechhurst, Queensboro Hill, and Willets Point. In 2000, Community District 7 had a population of 242,952. Although Flushing is ethnically diverse, Asians make up a large percentage of the population with a whopping 36%

Composition according to 2000 Census

According to the 2010 Census, Flushing had an Asian population of more than 40,000 and had an overall increase of about 39.9% in its Asian population. The White Non Hispanic population had a loss of more than 2,500 or a 59.9% decrease. Similarly, the Hispanic population saw a loss of more than 2,500 or a 39.9% decrease.  The Black population had a loss of 1,499 and already had a small population to begin with. The following image provides a visual of the Asian population across the five boroughs, Flushing is represented by the darker red region in Queens. The dark red regions, which are Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, Elmhurst, Flushing, and Chinatown, across the five boroughs have high concentrations of Asians and have become Chinatown satellites. It is interesting to see that Asians are no longer limited to Manhattan’s Chinatown and are dispersing across the boroughs and forming their own niche in new neighborhoods.
