Man at Arms – Custom Weapons
I was looking on internet this past and found this youtube channel that mostly uploads videos showing the making of custom weapons. These weapons are chosen by the comment section and are often weapons from movies, video games, or other fictional genres. I really enjoyed the videos not just because they fulfill that fanboy need in me but also because the videos go into some detail about how the weapons are mades and forged. There are two main series on the channel, Man at Arms and Reforged, both of which makes different types of custom weapons. It is sort of difficult to see the making of weapons as an art form, but when you see the amount of work that goes into the process, the art in their weapons becomes very clear.
This is incredible! There is this excitement you get when seeing a favorite weapon from a game or movie actually be recreated. It sort of brings the game/movie to life. Once someone understands how detailed and creative these weapons are in the games (which can defy physics, gravity, etc), they understand that creating it in the real world outside of the video game is very difficult.
This is really interesting! I think that, as Yahav said, recreating weapons and costumes from games really helps to bring them alive. There’s always that one character you controlled that you want to be in real life, just because they’re so badass in game. I think to answer the question of justifying weapons as an artform is to think of yourself as a blacksmith, carpenter or sculptor. Those guys create a physical and three dimensional work of art that manages to embody the “soul” of the creator.
