The Manhattan School of Music is on Claremont Avenue at 122nd and Broadway, New York. It was founded by pianist Janet Daniels Schenck in 1918. The Manhattan School of Music is world renown, and draws students from all over the world. This school offers both classical and jazz training in both learning to compose and perform.

According to their brochure, The Manhattan School of Music, or MSM for short, homes several performance spaces. The smallest is the Alan M. and Joan Taub Ades Performance Space which seats 150 people and the largest is John C. Borden Auditorium which seats 846 people. There are several concerts performed yearly in these concert halls. You can see several famous artists, opera singer and jazz bands at the MSM for a relatively cheap price. Some artists and opera singers who will be performing this year will be: Joe Lovano, Paul Gemignani, Marilyn Horne, Marcello Giordani, Philippe Entremont, and Sherrill Milnes. If you do not want to hear professionals play and sing, and rather watch and listen to new budding student opera singers, MSM also has a number of student produced performances, such as Le Nozze Di Figaro, and MSM’s Jazz Philharmonic Orchestra. MSM also has free Faculty Recitals year round.

MSM has many famous alumni, such as: artist Regina Spektor, musical prodigy Helen Huang, Lisa Hopkins, and singer and pianist Harry Connick, Jr. (who appeared in P.S. I Love You, and was also played Leo Markus on Will and Grace).
