Schools

In Astoria, schools are one of the most important institutions. The public schools, parochial, public schools, and Greek Orthodox ran schools are all used to build an education for the children. The Greek Orthodox schools are especially impressive because not only do they receive the standard education of all schools, but they also learn about the Greek culture and language, something not seen anywhere else. That is important because the children should know about their culture and traditions so they can carry them through generations to come.

As time passes, and the Astoria area gains more cultures than just Greek, the schools are changing as well. Originally, schools were all Greek affiliated, but today that is not the case. With the demographics changing, and new cultures joining the Astoria community, the education system is also expanding. There are now parochial and private schools in the area to accommodate all of the new residents.
