Greek Orthodox Schools

These two schools represent Astoria of the past, true in Greek culture. They teach both Greek and by the NYS standards.

St. Catherine and St. George School1

This private Greek Orthodox Church primary school caters to pre-k through third grade on 22-30 33rd Street. It focuses on keeping classes small, with a 1:5 teacher student ratio for a personalized education experience. They focus on Greek culture, traditions, and language on top of their daily “American” standard lessons.

St. Demetrios Astoria School2

St. Demetrios has an elementary, middle, and high school in the Astoria area. For more information on this Greek culture based school, please see our spotlight on this school.

Public schools

The public schools in this area are PS 122, 234, and 8411. They are all free of charge, like all public schools and follow NYS Core curriculum. All the public schools in the Astoria area are operated by the New York City Department of Education

The area also offers many nursery schools and daycare facilities for toddlers and children not old enough for school, but parents want to start their education and socializing at a younger age. Churches or private owners own these schools.
