Without a doubt, Astoria has been the heartland of the Greek-American community in New York for many years. Recently, however, there have been pockets of other ethnicities emerging in the neighborhood that have given it a unique and diverse touch. Among the Greeks we can also find Brazilian, Italian, Egyptian, Asian, and Hispanic communities.
In the above map, we can see that Astoria encompasses a very diverse community. The Greeks, represented in blue, are mostly found along Ditmars Blvd, Broadway, and 31st. The Brazilians are south of the Greeks for the most part between Broadway and 36th avenue. The Italian community is intermingled with the Greeks, and the Egyptians are clustered by Steinway St. and Astoria Blvd. There is a prominent Asian community along Broadway, while Hispanics seem to be scattered around Astoria.
