A triptych is a painting or piece of artwork made up of three panels or pieces. Each panel is an individual piece of art that contributes to a greater story as a whole. The center panel is usually the largest and the main focus of the entire triptych. Originating in Greece it was traditionally used as a means of religious expression but over time the technique was consumed by secular artists.
