Baruch Tops Best-Value List for Psychology Degree in 2015

In the 2015 Best Value Schools report of “Best Value Schools for Psychology Degrees,” Baruch ranks #1 in the country. Best Value Schools, a website whose mission is to “find those schools that can provide the best overall value for your educational dollar” ranks colleges nationwide, with a focus on “affordability” and “value in education” across different majors and degrees.

The site gathers its data based on common student criteria that best determines a valuable education. Significant factors in a valuable education include, but are not limited to: the ratio of faculty to students at a college, school environment, student clubs and organizations, availability, and return on investment (ROI) of the earned degree. The ROI is calculated by comparing both the cost of obtaining the degree and the salary expected coupled with the projected job market.

In the issue focused on Psychology Degrees, Best Value Schools praises Baruch for offering one of the most affordable psychology programs in the United States. Baruch offers a B.A. in Psychology or Industrial/Organizational Psychology – the B.A. granted by the undergraduate psychology program, and the BBA in Industrial and Organizational Psychology.. Best Value Schools found that in addition to lessening students’ financial woes, Baruch’s cost of tuition gives more time for students to “focus on more important matters, like psychology.”

The list featured some of the highest overall ranking universities in the country, including: Harvard University at 16, Stanford University at 23, and Brown University at 31. However, Baruch’s “bang for your buck” education evidently surpassed these degree programs.

The Chair of the Psychology Department, Samuel Johnson, boasts the three degree programs at Baruch, which, when combined, “contribute to an exciting and engaging academic community that provides students with an exceptional scholarly environment in which they will flourish.”

The Department of Psychology at Baruch currently consists of 15 full-time faculty members who are affiliated with the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, as well the Zicklin School of Business.

Best Value Schools recognizes the “overwhelming list of elective courses that cater to every interest” in Baruch, specifically paying heed to the Psychology of Religion, Political Psychology, and Sexuality. This ranking defies the common notion that Baruch is to only be strictly considered a “business school” for accounting and finance. Baruch’s many layers and areas of expertise shine through the latest Best Value Schools’ review.
