The dawsondancesf dance company took the stage for three nights at Baruch’s Nagelberg Theatre, performing the show “DENT-DROP-BEND.”

The company, formed by George P. Dawson in 2007, was created “as an outlet for his choreographic goals and vision.” It made its debut in New York City in the fall of 2014, and has returned for its second year of performances at the college from September 25th until the 27th.

The six dancers: Jordan Drew, Ilaria Guerra, Isaiah Bindel, Frankie Lee III, Alexander Vargas, and William Fowler performed in monochromatic leotards and metallic shorts, across a black faded background that encompassed a brightly lit stage. Kyle McKee was the head of Photo & Film. The music had a range from soft melodies to powerful, bold rock-sounding tunes.

George Dawson, who currently teaches and choreographs for all the LINES Ballet Educational Program, has choreographed and directed numerous shows throughout the United States and is very well accredited for his motion projects.

The performance chronicled “a journey that explore[d] the fantastic athleticism of Dawson’s artistry.” According to the Baruch advertisement, each movement expressed during the show was “a testament to the company’s mission of breaking down the barriers placed on classical technique” in an effort to “reinvent movement and space.”

On its website, dawsondancesf boasts the wide range, plethora of shows in which the company has performed throughout the Tri-State area.

Maria Katsoulis, an attendant of the Friday showing, found the performance to be “magical” and “enlightening,” recommending it to people passionate for the theater. For Maria, the performance was “a definite must-see at Baruch.”
