Culture and art play a major role in shaping Caribbean identities in New York City. Specifically, celebrations and commercial arts build networks, strengthen communication and help maintain Caribbean identities in West Indian communities away from “home.”
This section explores different commercial arts and how they are not only used to sell products, but to also reinforce Caribbean identity in NYC through their choice of art and color. Lastly, I discuss a portion of an article that emphasizes the importance of art and culture in shaping Caribbean identity, as well as providing a list of articles to explore for further information.
