When I had played in Jazz Band at my school I had encountered numerous Jazz musicians and styles, and no one had stood out as much as Charles Mingus. His music is very upbeat and chaotic. Check out some of his songs here (We played the latter two in class):

Thanks for sharing! I can see (hear!) why you were so drawn by his music – it’s enticing! I particularly enjoyed the succession of highs and lows and the gradual implementation of other instruments in ‘Goodbye Pork Pie Hat.’ It’s very ethereal music to me, as it hits my ear.
