  1. 2 out of 3 people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke
  2. 2 in 3 people with diabetes report having high blood pressure.
  3. Diabetes raises your chances of having a stroke are 2 to 4 times
  4. Diabetes is a large contributing factor to heart disease: 1 in 3 women will of heart disease, 3 times more than women dying of breast cancer.
  5. Women with diabetes are 2 times as likely to have a second heart attack and 4 times more likely to have heart failure
  6. An estimated 34.5 million of people with diabetes have some type of hearing loss. Hearing loss is twice as common in people with diabetes. The rate of hearing loss is 30 percent higher in those with pre-diabetes.
  7. People with diabetes are 60% more likely to develop cataracts; they also progress faster and at a younger age.
  8. People with diabetes are 40% more likely to suffer from glaucoma
  9. Gestational diabetes develops in 18 percent of all pregnancies. Women who have had gestational diabetes or have given birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds are at an increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
  10. Only about 33% of those who choose dialysis are still alive 5 years later.
