Our presentation, “The Power of Comedy” by Fatima Chaudhry and Sujana Yeasmin, is about stand-up comedy and the comedian Hasan Minhaj. In our presentation, we address the importance of stand-up comedy, Hasan Minhaj’s Patriot Act and the King’s Jester which were performed in New York, his comedic focus and strategies, his controversies, and how comedy impacted his life. We want people to take away that stand-up comedy is an intricate and unique art form that greatly impacts society. By talking about personal experiences, comedians can bring awareness to universal topics and issues. However, despite freedom of speech, there are limits to the jokes that comedians can make.
