Hello everybody, I’m Tan Yee but I go by Lenny

I was born in Hong Kong but my parents are from Fuzhou. I can speak Cantonese, Mandarin and a tiny bit of Fujianese. I can also read Chinese but can’t write in Chinese. My family moved to Montana when I was six years old. I lived there for about nine years then moved here to Brooklyn during the middle of Freshmen year.

I have an older sister named Tan Lui and I love her. When I was little I asked her if we could get married so we will never ever separate. Her response was a grunt plus a disgusted look. A lot of people mistaken us for twins but she is three years older than me. I am more book smart while she has more common sense. She is more adventurous while I am a scardy cat. I really can’t imagine life without her.

Recently my pastimes are coloring, reading, and watching Youtube videos.

There is an adult coloring book, Secret Garden by Johanna Basford, that I like to carry around and color in when I have time. Since I can’t draw this is the most artistic thing I do.

I used to read all the time before I got a laptop. I won a bike in elementary school because I read a lot of books. This summer I decided to begin reading again. My favorite book at the moment is Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Alborn.

I like watching Youtube videos because they are short, but somehow I usually end up wasting a whole day watching them. Some of my favorite channels are the JKfilms/JKnews/JKparty, Buzzfeed, and Clothesencounters.

My goal for college is stepping out of my comfort zone, meeting more people, and expanding my horizon.

I have many hobbies – reading, writing, hanging out with friends, and listening and playing music. But the thing I’m most passionate about is Disney World.

Cinderellas-Castle

I know, many people would say to me, “Disney World? That’s for little kids” But did you know that everyone has his or her own Disney age? Just add the two digits of your actual age. So technically, we are all little kids.

And, Disney is for people of ALL ages.

The endless surprises waiting around the corner, the random acts of kindness that happen for a little kid or maybe an adult, or the amazing secrets one can find at Disney World amazes me and everyone else in the park every time we go to Disney – the most magical place on Earth.

I am always giddy with excitement when I see everyone else in their awesome Disney attire and wearing their Mickey ears as I walk through the parks.

Almost every other year, my family plans to go down to Orlando, Florida to go to all the parks at Disney World. It’s something I look forward to. I may not be the most organized and put together at school, but when it comes to Disney, I plan everything. Before the trip, I create a second by second schedule, planning when we go to which amusement ride, where and when to eat, and when to go the bathroom. (Yeah, I get a little bit crazy).

I search the quickest and easiest way to get to each ride, when is the best time to go on each ride, how to avoid the crowds, etc. Sometimes, it drives my family crazy when I dictate where to go. But, even they have to admit, it’s very efficient.

So from 8:00 in the early morning we go through the whole day of fun until we watch all of the fireworks at night. It’s truly a magical sight to behold.  And Disney World is where I’m the most happiest.

Hello everybody, I’m Dami

On one hand I feel like I do not have much to say about myself, but on the other hand I feel like I can talk about myself for hours. Lets start at the very beginning…

I was born in New York City on November 5 of 1997 and a few months after I was born I was sent back to China to be raised by my grandparents. I lived in China in  the Fu Zhou province until I was approximately four or five years old. Thereafter, I returned to New York to start my education. Below is a picture of a night market near where my grandparents lived, where I often went to play at night with my cousins.

Around the third grade, my parents decided to move to Clarksville, TN for business and we relocated there for about three years, before moving back to NYC again. Living in the south was really different compared to living in New York City, since everything was more spaced out and not within walking distance. Although I enjoyed my time in Clarksville, I think I’m more of a city person.

Before returning NYC, my family took a vacation back to China and it was my first trip back to China. During this trip I was reintroduced to my cousins and grandparents and it was one of the best vacations I ever had filled with excitement and adventure. Because of this trip I discovered my love for traveling and thus decided to major in international business in college. Since my first trip back I have only had one other trip back, but I definitely will make many more trips back. I am also really into listening to korean pop, watching korean variety shows and Thai soap operas, and reading manga which is why I also really want to go to Korea, Japan, and Thailand. I have no idea how I acquired these hobbies, but I’m really glad I did even though some may seem really out of place.

In addition to traveling I also enjoy working out and playing sports. I enjoy every sport that uses either a racket or paddle such as: tennis, ping pong, and badminton. I may not excel in these sports, but I have fun engaging in different sports. I also like playing volleyball and basketball. I’m always looking for people to play sports and workout with.

Some people have also told me that I look really mean and unapproachable when I’m alone or when I’m listening to music, but I’m a pretty kind person and I don’t bite so please do not be afraid to talk to me! Lastly, I just want to tell you that I love food and two of my favorite things to eat are brownies and french fries!!!

Hey, I’m Brandon Green

Hey, I’m Brandon Green, I’m from Shoreham, NY and Macaulay was my first choice when I was picking a college. I will be majoring in finance and have a specific interest in Investment Banking. I first decided that I wanted to go into finance when I took a class on Wall St. during my freshman year of high school. Our class was able to visit the NYSE and from that day on, I knew I had to work with the markets somehow. If everything goes well here, I’d like to intern for Goldman Sachs as an analyst and have a job lined up there by the time I graduate.

I have quite a few passions, they include cars, drumming, rock music, and of course, world markets. I started drumming in fifth grade and took lessons until I moved into the dorms two weeks ago. I enjoy all music as long as it has an interesting percussion part, but tend to lean toward rock and heavy metal. Some of my favorite bands include Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Atreyu, Machine Head, Linkin Park, and Nonpoint. One of my favorite things to do is to drive my car with both windows open, my left arm on the door, and blast music as loud as I can bear. I find this to be incredibly relaxing, it makes me forget about all of my troubles and feel at peace with myself and the world around me. As you all know by now, I have a 2009 Inferno Red Dodge Challenger Rt. I’m one of those guys that takes pictures of his car as he walks away from it, sometimes I can’t help it! A huge draw into the world of Investment Banking for me was that I would be able to make enough money to be able to satisfy my car hobby as it is quite an expensive one.

I am very excited to see where the next few years take me and can’t wait to get started!

Hey, I am Anthony Chen

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take

Hi, my name is Anthony Chen, and I am originally from Queens, New York. At the end of second grade, I officially moved to Plainview, Long Island, where I was nurtured and developed into who I am today. This moment in my life would be a drastic changing point because I not only left my former friends, but also had to adjust to a new academically competitive environment. However, I persisted to strive for greatness.

I would consider myself as an ambitious, compassionate, and assiduous individual. I have a strong mathematics background ever since I started school, so this is why I chose to pursue an actuary major at Baruch. In high school I also participated in Student Government, so I hope that  will be put to  further use in  articulating my ideas to others.  I am also an avid reader, and  a talent in drawing (I hope this class will shake off some rust).

What most people overlook about my studious demeanor is my  strong passion for the game of basketball. The sport is second nature to me because it has been my childhood. To this day I still practice my handles and J’s at my local park.

While we bring this topic up, my personal idol, and the best idealistic representation of myself would be Jeremy Lin. Lin made a name for himself in the NBA ever since his eruption in the Linsanity-Knicks era. It was through his dedication and perseverance in training that led him to carry his team when they needed him most. He made the most of his slim opportunities.

As I reflect back, I feel that high school is a time in which one makes lasting friendships and preparing for the road ahead. College is a new terrain in which a person will meet new people, experience great things, and discover how to impact the world (and of course be self-sufficient).

Hey, I am Ahmed Farooq

When we step on to that field, it is no joke. We are ready to sacrifice our bodies for the team. We must have a kill-or-be-killed mentality. To my right, Danny, I’ve known him since kindergarten, the elementary bus rides home were jovial, but this is different, this is real. A mistake here means one of our own going down, a mistake here is the difference between winning and losing. Danny and the rest of the team is trusting me to keep the enemy out, I must do this. If the hungry, 250 lb defender gets by me, there is nothing separating him from my quarterbacks blindside; He foams for this opportunity. Because of Football I have brothers, I have trusted and been trusted with the responsibility of looking out for my own. The experience that athletics, and specifically football, has afforded me is unlike any other. The camaraderie that is developed between teammates is awe inspiring. This is why I love sports.

Other than my passion about sports, I feel I am just like everyone else; I can eat till I pass out, whenever I start a new show on netflix that i really like, i watch the entire season in one night, I enjoy learning new things but I find myself annoyed with school whenever I stay up till 3 doing a paper thats due the next day.

Macaulay Honors College was my number one choice of college and I feel very blessed to be here. My favorite part has been meeting and talking to all my amazing new classmates. I look around in my classes and I hear the accomplishments that you all have made and the goals that you are striving for make me think to myself, “how did I end up here?” (in a good way).

The quarterback (white jersey) is being “blindesided” by the defender because number 62 (white jersey on left) failed to do his job

Hey, I’m Maxwell Sternberg

My name is Maxwell Sternberg and I am from Lawrence, New York. I plan to major in the area of Business, however, I have not decided exactly what yet. My whole life I have been a passionate sports fan; and an even bigger fan of playing all those sports. I believe it was my competitive drive that pushed me to start playing basketball, tennis, football, and hockey. It wasn’t until later that I found my favorite sport, golf. When I picked up golf I discovered that it was a sport where I could compete against myself, and then in effect push myself to do better everyday. That lesson, along with others such as patience, have shaped me into the person I am today. Being  in New York City for college I was nervous that I was not going to be able to golf as frequently as I used to. Fortunately, I realized that by going to class everyday I can implement the lessons and values that I enjoyed on the course. Another thing about golf which really appealed to me was the serenity of the course. I feel that when I am on the course all is calm, no matter how bad my round is. The course is truly a haven for me. My hope is that wherever I study abroad I will visit all the cool golf courses that I would have never been able to play. I am looking forward to this class, and all the knowledge I can gain about the Arts in NYC.

Hey, I’m Stella Kang

Hey, I’m Stella Kang.

Officially, I was born on Long Island as a blonde Korean-american named Stella Kris Kang. The hair color changed after three days. However, to commemorate those days, I recently dyed my hair to a similar color. One might say this was a rebellious act against my mother right out of high school. I just wanted to go blonde.

Throughout high school career I’ve explored several areas of study, however, I can’t say that I’m sure about what I want to do in the future. I’ve spent most of high school involved in the classical music and my high school orchestra. I started playing piano when I was about four years old, followed by the violin, the viola, and the guitar. Though I’ve spent a lot of my life invested in music, I decided that it wasn’t something I’m particularly passionate about, and that it would have to remain a hobby while I explored for a greater passion. I played volleyball and join a local archery tournament. I also attended acting/theatre school for a summer. And I read plenty of books. But still, nothing for sure.

Violin_VL100 That is, until my senior year of high school. I took an AP Microeconomics course, and found it to be the most naturally intriguing class of my high school career. I found that the study of something that consistently affects my life was incredibly fascinating, and I decided that I would spend my undergraduate career studying business. I’ve also discovered a big interest in makeup and fashion, so combining that with business, I’ve begun research on the fashion marketing industry.  I don’t know whats going to happen four years from now. But I’m excited to continue exploring myself and my surroundings. Perhaps I’ll find something new, or perhaps I’ll love what I already love even more.

Hey, I’m Matthew Lam

Hi, my name is Matthew Lam and I was born and raised in Massapequa, Long Island. I’ve done a lot of travelling over the years since I was a young boy, who couldn’t walk yet. Interesting fact, I have a dual citizenship with the United States and the United Kingdom because my mom was born in England. Although I do enjoy travelling, I can’t stand packing for trips and gathering all the necessary stuff to go on the trip. Each country I’ve visited has greatly influenced the person I am today, which influenced my major to go towards business. The environments of each country are so distinct from one another, like  England, France, Italy, Hong Kong and South Korea. I’ve visited England the most because I have family there. In a sense, it is my second home. After visiting these countries, I’ve come to appreciate living in the United States more because of its abundant and free lifestyle that most countries can’t compete with. People that live in other countries are just so much slower in the way they walk, talk and even act; I found myself getting impatient at times when comparing other countries to the United States efficiency. The biggest difference in other countries, in comparison to the United States, is that they know how to take care of tourists and show tourists the beauty of their country. Out of all the countries that I’ve visited, I would put Hong Kong at the top of my list because it was the only country that could compete with the speed and productivity of the United States. The food and service there was amazing, especially when you converted the United States’ dollar to the Hong Kong dollar (you could live like a king). These countries made me appreciate where I grew up and appreciate the diversity of a modern city.airplane-e1407366462772
