Let’s look for a moment at the ugly duckling of our evening at the City Center, which no one seemed to notice positively: Lucinda Childs Dance Company. (Check out also the photo in Nabila’s post)
What do you think the choreographer was trying to achieve in this piece?
I am not entirely sure what the choreographer was trying to achieve in this piece, other than an impressive display of synchronization. This was the only positive takeaway I had from this performance, as the synchronization was very impressive, but the rest of the dance was rather repetitive. I certainly think that the choreographer was trying to achieve something greater than this, but it did not come across to me.
I thought the very first part, in which people moved in geometrically intriguing formation of making a movement based on groups to form an alternation between the cross and circle, reminded me of something mechanical, like the complicated labyrinth of cogwheels behind a gigantic clock tower.
