My parents immigrated to America during the late 80s/ early 90s. They settled in the Lower East Side area of Manhattan and my mother has lived there ever since. I was born here, but my parents, as new immigrants, were not able to take care of me while making a living; plus they also wanted me to get to know my own heritage. As a result, I was sent back to China to be raised by my grandparents. I spent the first nine years of my life in my hometown in the FuJian province of China. Around my fourth year in grade school, I came back to the States. I lived with my father around the 8th Avenue area in Brooklyn for a short while before moving in with my mother.

I attended Brooklyn Technical High School, where I majored in Bio – Technical engineering, before attending Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College. I am currently undeclared, but I’m taking steps to pursue a double major in Psychology and Chinese. I enjoy playing sports and recently joined the Hunter Ultimate Frisbee team. Ultimate Frisbee is a new sport to me but I’ve enjoyed it very much and I am working hard to improve as a player.

As a result of growing up in China and the Chinatown areas in New York, I have come to value my Chinese heritage and I enjoy learning about Chinese Culture. I hope that my involvement with the Hunter Chinese Flagship program can bring me closer to learning about Chinese culture and arts.
