I grew up in the Bronx and have lived there all of my life. Both of my parents are Puerto Rican, however my mother was born in the US. My father was born in Puerto Rico and stayed there until he was about 3 and was then brought to the US.
I was raised in a household where my family spoke both English and Spanish. I was taught from a very young age both languages. Though my parents both speak English fluently, my grandparents do not and learning both languages helped me to be able to communicate. I am now able to read and write in spanish.
