Chicana Feminist Movement

WHAT IS THE CHICANA FEMINIST MOVEMENT

A movement that rose in the late 70’s early 80’s. The Chicana feminism movement branched from the 60’s Chicano Civil Rights movement, also known as El movimiento, which was an extension of the 1940’s Mexican American Civil Rights Movement. For Mexicans the term “chicano” meant the “poorest of the poor” but during the Civil Rights Movement they used the word to unite themselves and to use as a classification for United States citizens of Mexican decent (Mexican-American.org).  From this Chicana Feminism was born.
