Thomas A. Bolan

I grew up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, a neighborhood dominated by Polish immigrants. I easily blended in until addressed with a dzień dobry, to which I would awkwardly reply hello. This was met with noticeable disappointment many times and began a rebellious pride in being Irish and German, not Polish. This pride has taken root in my Irish descent, compelling me to write every project I could on Ireland and to become the president of the Irish Club in high school. This pride has also led to a strong interest in my ancestry, both who my ancestors were and how they lived. This interest however is eclipsed by my profound love of literature. I am an undeclared English Adolescent Education major and hope to teach high school English. I am also considering minoring in Spanish, which would help me to communicate with ESL students and immigrant parents. In addition to teaching, I also hope to write in a variety of genres.
