Our project delves into the life of Jean-Michel Basquiat and his contribution to New York City’s art scene in the 1970s and 80s. In the project, we explore how his art continuously spoke to larger sociopolitical systems affecting the city at the time (and still do today). The project defines the genre of Neo-expressionism, what kinds of mediums he used, and the themes within his art that are still important today.
