I really enjoy your first and third picture because it seems to connect with Sargent’s original painting: you took the physicals and turned them into a contemporary idea. The gas mask and the barrel of chemicals next to the person in the third picture can be attributed to the increasing pollution of the modern world. As for the 1st picture, I find it bold that you would remake the background into a dumpster land. Interesting. The overall theme here seems to be trash and waste. Was that what Sargent was expressing in his original painting? Although I can see some sort of connection with the 2nd picture and the original painting, I don’t see a clear connection. It’s hard to interpret. What did you try to express there?

You variations make strong statements about the environment. Your variation with the gas mask and the barrel of chemicals in part with your variation with the mountain of trash shows how we as a species are poisoning our environment. Our beautiful earth is something we take for granted, and your variations force the viewer to ask tough questions.

Your re-creations are very interesting. They definitely convey what you want your message to be even though you made simple changes to the original. But the changes you did make clearly express what you are thinking and what you want to say to your audience. I really enjoyed admiring your creations.

I think that the pictures that you have created are better adept to make an impact on the issue of environmental pollution than any paper is possible of doing. I interpreted your work as the increasing severity of human impact on Earth with the passage of time. Just a short century ago, during Sargents’ times, human impact on the environment was not as toxic as the impact that we have today.
