Johanna’s Weeks of Haikus

Leaves cover the ground
It is definitely fall
My favorite season

Should I start my work?
There is always tomorrow
Procrastination

My hot chocolate
Is too hot to drink right now
But very tempting

The moon is still out
My alarm clock is ringing
Try not to hit snooze

The sun is rising
My train will be leaving soon
It is a new day

Winds carry the leaves
Through the dark and gloomy night
Thunder and lightning

The storm has now passed
The sun makes an appearance
What a difference

  1. Your haikus evoke a feeling of comfort, and provide the reader with a good sense of the atmosphere. Your observations may appear ephemeral (because of the subject matter’s fleeting nature), but they certainly are easy to identify with. I noticed that you often write about nature and the emotions associated with seasonal changes. You also write about the course of your day and how external factors (such as the weather and the time of day) affect your overall attitude. Your haikus are easy to relate to, and actually prompt me to look at my surroundings a bit more poetically.

  2. Thanks for the comment Anastasia! You made a lot of great points that I actually have not noticed until now- such as the emotions associated with seasonal changes and external factors.
