Art On The Go – Blurb 4
Art on the Go
So you’re a New Yorker, you don’t have time to go somewhere and sit down to watch people perform for you. You’ve got places to go people to meet and things to see, after all time is money. But, while you’re traveling might very well be the greatest opportunity to witness art. If you’re lucky you can get on the train in Manhattan and sometime during your commute to your next destination artists will come on the train to perform for you. A few days ago I was one of these lucky New Yorkers. I was sitting on the Q-train bouncing my leg around impatiently waiting for the train to get me home quickly. But, at, I believe the stop was DeKalb Avenue, a few men about twenty years old walked into my subway car blasting music. I hoped it was performers for I’ve seen one before and luckily enough it was. They began playing music and taking turns performing incredible dance movements; leaping from pole to floor, doing flips and even moonwalking. They were a great group of dancers and I was impressed on how they were able to do it on a moving train. All in all the group gave us a great performance for the short time they were with us and I hope you have the chance to see a group like this on the subway one day. (And if you do try and give them a dollar they gave you a performance.)

Blurb 3- Yellowcard
Some people say that what’s the point of going to a concert? Buy the Album and listen to it at home or on their I-pod. Why does going there make a difference? The difference is one word, emotion. If someone would go to a Yellowcard concert they’d understand what this means. It has been five years since Yellowcard last came to New York Continue reading

The Met’s Heroes of Africa?
The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Heroes of South Africa
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is known as one of the greatest museums of art in the world, some call it the cultural center of New York. Every few months or so The Metropolitan Museum of Art puts together a special exhibit for people to enjoy and learn from. If someone just wanders around in the Greek and Roman section it wont be too difficult to find the room where the special exhibit is being held. The room is usually in a secluded room with many signs pointing towards the entrance; it is kind of hard to miss. A few months ago they presented Roman Mosaics found in Lod, Israel and now they are presenting art from the sub-Saharan part of Africa; it will be on display until January 2012. A supervisor said, “I believe that they brought it here to New York because here in the Western World the art is cherished more.” He also said, “The countries where the art originated from include Ghana, The Republic of South Africa, there is also a video of a play from Cameroon and from other sub-Saharan countries in Africa ” This begs the question if the art originated from these countries it implies they weren’t there now. So this leads to the question where is the art for the exhibit coming from? Continue reading
Soccer a different form of art
When people think of a soccer match they imagine two teams battling in order to become the victor. However, if someone would attend a game at Red Bull Arena they would see how there is more to soccer then simply winning. Before the game even starts there is a sea of people walking to the arena each proudly wearing their teams’ colors; it’s like swimming in a rainbow. During the game watching the way the players handle the ball and show their skill is truly an art form in it’s own. Win or lose one thing that always gets a person’s blood pumping is the roar of the crowd, whether they are shouting praises or insults it creates a mob mentality unlike any other. The crowd also sings songs that motivate their team while discouraging the other team; the crowd also does organized dances and chants to stimulate the rest of the crowd. The crowd truly is a vital part of the experience and the game would not be the same without it. When one realizes all the things that truly make up a soccer game at Red Bull Arena they must ask themselves the question: “Is a soccer game really just a bunch brutes chasing a ball or is it a little bit more?”

House of Water – Great music in unexpected places
Every day there is a performance at Union Square and 14th street underground in the subway system of New York. It’s incredible how many New Yorkers which are people that have the smallest attention span ever are captivated by the artists and just group around them. I took the time to watch House of Water perform and it may have been the most unique music I ever heard. What’s so incredible about this band is that their music is a combination of sound from all over the world including South America, India, Africa and even Jazz. The band also used an instrument I’ve never seen before called a hammered dulcimer and they played it to perfection. This band is truly a wonder to behold, prepare to be amazed as the band plays the most innovative music you will probably ever hear.

Something I noticed this week as I walked around artfully was how true the saying new yorkers move fast/never sleep where even rain which is one of the most relaxing things for me doesn’t slow them down, it hardly even phased them.
And on a completely different note here’s a cool picture of the US Men’s National Soccer team logo:
