Our project explores the factors that contribute to the migration of European Starlings to New York City during the fall months. As many may suspect, we have hypothesized that the number of European Starlings will decrease as the temperature gets colder and as food availability declines, but the results of our study ultimately led us to reject our rationale behind our hypothesis. Nonetheless, temperature and food abundance does seem to influence the presence and migration of European Starlings within New York City.

It is interesting to see how temperature plays an important role in the migration of these starlings and how they in fact choose to stay in New York City despite the cold weather. I also really liked that there was a use for iNatralist- I think that using it to find starlings is important when collecting data, especially for NYC.
