Research has proven that air pollution has major harmful effects on health, one effect being on the respiratory system. Our project focuses on lung cancer rates and air pollution in the 5 boroughs. Upon the completion of a meta analysis of various research papers and databases, we have concluded that Staten Island, out of the 5 boroughs has the most air pollution, and unsurprisingly, the highest levels of lung cancer.

It is interesting to see the correlation between air pollution and lung cancer rates in NYC. It was also interesting to see the disparities between each borough. It would be beneficial to examine what factors impact air quality in each borough to be better able to combat poor air quality.

Despite the large amount of information, I found your poster to be easy to read, which I suspect is owed to the use of bullet points. I also thought the choice of color and mapping the more vibrant and darker red to a higher morality was intuitive and made the maps easier to read. However, the bar graph was slightly unclear and may have benefited from being separated into two graphs and given bigger font. I’m also curious about how access to healthcare may be a confounding variable, I would’ve liked to see more explanation on that.

This poster effectively explained the relationship between air quality and lung cancer between all boroughs. Living in New York I am aware of how much pollution there is in the city but never really thought about the impact it has on the air quality and how it can affect out health long term. As Sydney commented, it would be great to learn if there are any solutions to make air quality better in the city.
