Born and raised in NYC, the center of the world, I find myself privileged to be able to experience the extensiveness this place has to offer. No where else do people carry the same swagger and swank that make us New Yorkers.
I have always appreciated the fact that the neighborhood I mainly grew up in (Jackson Heights), was so diverse that it allowed me to get to know people from all over, with completely different backgrounds. In addition, having attended public schools throughout my life only made things that much sweeter; to me, it is part of the New York identity. Further, this identity is in part shaped by the immigrants of the city, since after all, we are a city with such vastly different backgrounds. Where better to start than in the parks of NYC?
