Shannon Chen’s Haikus

10/6- Freedom

What is this feeling?

The end of obligation.

The wind in my hair.

10/7- Echoes

Echoing footsteps

Through familiar halls

Inside, my soul cries.

10/8- Companionship

Friendship has value

For no man is an island

But maybe I’ll swim.

10/9- Despair

I feel recklessness.

Coursing through my veins like fire.

I’m past salvation.

10/10- Salvation

How many have sought

The stairway to heaven

But found hell instead?

10/11- Simplicity

The complexities

Of cold inhuman nature

Lead us all astray.

10/12- Sacrifice

I stroll through the park

Even in the freezing cold

For love is worth it.

10/13- Disaster

Wardrobe malfunction

Pesky zipper come undone.

Afterwards, we laughed.

10/14- Lace

The lace-lined aisles

Beckon to me with their frills

Empty is my purse.

10/15- Lost

I once used to care.

Help, I think I’ve lost my way.

Can you help me please?

10/16- Euphoria

Count eleven days.

The clock ticks ever slowly.

Time for you to leave.

10/17- Precision

I love precision.

Seconds measure the moments.

Very specific.

10/18- Reality

What is this feeling?

Sharp, cold and unforgiving.

Like a knife in flame.
