Yana’s Month of Haikus

10/6

Making my way

through the crowded streets

Where am I going?

10/7

trees shedding

their summer skin sprinkled on the ground

I hope they don’t catch a cold

10/8

House of blankets

The whole world floating on a cloud

I am dreaming

10/9

Sun shining

Spreading summer warmth across the horizon

but it’s October

10/10

Warm sensation,

take me back to endless nights and carefree days

Eternal summer

10/11

math tests make me wonder

why can’t numbers

just calculate themselves?

10/12

rain drops falling

drumming down the quiet streets

listen

10/13

closed eyes

open curtains to another world

tell me a story

10/14

bright sun outside

peeking in through my drawn shades

turn back the clock

10/15

weeks and months blending

anticipation of the long awaited

winter break

10/16

bright shining sun

awaken my soul and

fill me with tranquility

10/17

Night falls faster now

as New York prepares to hibernate

Goodnight

10/18

October’s song of rain and wind

plays outside my window.

I’d rather listen to an Indian summer

10/19

if laughter’s the best medicine,

then after all these midterms

I want to catch a cold

10/20

It’s that time of year again

most difficult decision

what to be for Halloween?

10/21

I am no poet

but these haikus intrigue me

Simple but complex

10/22

Sit and reflect

Long days and longer nights

You deserve a break

10/23

I wonder

if I’ll remember

the memories I’m making now

10/24

so little time in a day

yet so much to be done

unchecked checklist

10/25

bright moon

illuminates the skyline.

New York never sleeps.

10/26

winter rapidly arriving,

but cant it wait

until after Halloween?

10/27

has Mother Nature forgotten

that before winter

must come fall?

10/28

long anticipated weekend

Halloween is here

night on the town awaits

10/29

outside my window

white october

do my eyes deceive?

10/30

Sundays are so fleeting

come too soon

and leave too fast

10/31

trick or treat

smell my feet

give me something good to eat

11/1

hello November.

just one more month

until winter break

  1. I feel like your haikus give an equal sense of working or doing things and relaxing and relaxing. I also feel like the haikus give off an attitude of not knowing or caring about the future and being okay with it which I find relatable and pretty cool. Your haikus tell me to remind my self what I’m doing why I’m doing it and where I’m going. When I wrote these two haikus I was trying to evoke the sense of freedom and tranquility that’s in most of your haikus but I also wanted to involve time/vacation like you did in your haikus. That’s why i mentioned relaxation winter and being free as well. Also I kind of see a connection with you and your pictures for example the first one about walking through New York and the picture with the people walking around aimlessly. Also the last picture which had the open sky and nature which gives me a sense of being carefree and relaxed like most of your haikus.
