Written review of the movie “Tower Heist”

In a time of Occupy Wall Street protest and the Bernie Maddoff investment scandal the idea of Americans loosing their life savings to investment fraud is not far from the peoples’ imagination. Scandals like these can happen in a moment but the effects are catastrophic—but only for the working class. Typically, the businessman hires a team of experienced lawyers, serves no jail time and retires wealthy. On the other hand, the average person must work even harder to make ends meet. The movie “Tower Heist” accurately depicts the inequality between the rich and poor in terms of legalities and financial frauds.

Alan Alda plays the rich businessman, Arthur Saw, who lives at the Tower Heist, the most expensive and secure penthouse in New York City. The director Brett Ratner introduces Shaw swimming in his private pool, which has the image of a dollar bill engraved in the pool floor. He is clearly an affluent gentleman and it is no coincidence that the movie’s antagonist is also wearing red swimming trunks. The director then shifts to a shabby apartment in Astoria, Queens where John, played by Ben Stiller, is getting ready to leave for his job as manager at the Tower Heist. John, on the other hand, is wearing a white button down shirt and the grey hairs along his temples clearly show that he is a hardworking and honest individual.

Manal’s Blurb # 4

I think its safe to assume that we are all fairly acquainted with the Opera. We have immersed ourselves with this art form at both the Metropolitan Opera House and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Recently, at the weekly Meet the Artist Event at the Macaulay Honors College, opera singer Alicia Hall Moran uniquely integrated opera singing with lyrics from contemporary songs. Given the small space at the College it was interesting to see Moran sing live and to observe how she projects her voice for the crowd. In between the singing, Moran also talked about her personal life and gave us a few words of wisdom to remember for the future. At the end of the event Moran mentioned that she will be an understudy at an opera and encouraged us to see her perform live.

Creative Work 3

In the video I using the painting about the life story of Prince Selchog. In the story the Prince goes on a journey to find Tonpa Shenrab, but the Prince encounters a lot of difficulty along the way. However, the Prince is saved by Tonpa Shenrab’s followers and practices Tonpa Shenrab’s teachings. I relates the artwork to my narrative about Black Friday and in my narrative I mentioned the difficulties I experienced to get to best buy and how my luck eventually changed for the better. Moreover, I was fascinated by the colors used in the artwork and I worked that into my narrative when I described the colors and lights I see outside of my window.

Manal’s Blurb about the Guggenheim Museum

Within a short walk from Central Park, is the uniquely designed Guggenheim museum. I was in awe the moment I stepped into the museum. Hanging from the ceiling are various sculptures ranging from a life size cow to the sculpture of a young boy playing the drums. The statues are held in place by a thick white cloth; they are aligned so that some are closer to the ceiling than others. Architecturally speaking, the museum is designed to have a seamless ramp rather than stairs so that the further the museumgoers walk, the more sculptures they are able to see. The museum integrates both traditional and modern art perfectly. On each floor there is an arts exhibit showcasing various artwork from French, German and American artists. On the third floor you can find French inspired art by well-esteemed artists such as Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso; the art consists of broad strokes and nature themes. On the fourth and fifth floors you can find the art by Kandinsky, which is more abstract but precise. Lastly, on the sixth floor is the pop art gallery with American art from post world war two.
