Review – “Contagion”

Steven Soderbergh’s latest film “Contagion” portrays a grim horror story unlike most, one that fortunately for the film but unfortunately for humanity, is not too far fetched. This movie’s monster isn’t an axe–wielding murderer or a flesh–eating zombie, but rather a virus; an infinitesimal microbe, which claims more victims in the picture’s 106 minutes than every other killer in the history of horror movies combined. “Contagion” goes exactly where it needs to go and beyond, touching base with it’s audience on a number of levels while managing to evoke emotions from fear to compassion to everything in between in it’s short running time. Blurb #1 – Fashion’s Night Out

Last Thursday, September 8th, I had the chance of attending an event that truly makes NYC what it is. Fashion’s Night Out is a city-wide occasion where stores stay open way past their usual hours, each hosting their own “parties” equipped with DJ’s, artists, and of course runway shows. Caught in the middle of all the hustle and bustle, I couldn’t help but notice as I walked from store to store that the real art wasn’t on the shelves or in the windows, it was walking next to me. The people around me were all interested in fashion, like I am, but fashion meant something different to each and every one of them. In front of me was a woman in an extravagant ball gown, behind me a man in heels, next to me someone with a hat made of feathers. That night, fashion was an art form, and everywhere I turned, it was being honored as just that.

Something artful that I noticed this past week as I was walking around NYC were all the colorful umbrellas harmoniously moving along, opening and closing, dancing through the rainy streets. It was almost as if I were in the middle of a musical number where the rain drops were the orchestra and the umbrellas were the dancers, and I had a front row seat. The weather may have been awful, but the show it created was anything but.
