We have confined ourselves to our own little bubble because of the voices of others. Now, we make our voices louder, raise our fists higher, and live our truth prouder.

“Owning Our Space” explores what it means to not only occupy, but also embrace the spaces designed for us. As four young women of color navigating through our new lives in NYC, we unpack how we have felt excluded, deemed “different,” but rise above that throughout the theme of belonging. For too much of our lives, we have confined ourselves to our own little bubble because of the voices and expectations of others. We know just how it feels to shrink our identity, our true selves, and our skin and hide away from the judgement of others. Rather than letting others take our spaces away from us or dictate how we ought to move through life, we make our voices louder, raise our fists higher, and live our truth prouder. Our goal within “Owning Our Space” is to empower other young women of color with the message of self-acceptance and self-love.
