By viewing the Holocaust through a musical timeline, we can only begin to scratch the surface of what life was really like for those who had to live through it.
Like audio snapshots, music offers a telling glimpse into the events and emotions that their creators and original audiences experienced firsthand. In this project, I explore two pieces, both composed by people who were experiencing the brute of the Holocaust. By listening to the music and truly hearing the words, we gain a deeper insight into what life was them.

It is so meaningful to see how Jews used music to hold on to their humanity, even during one of the most brutal points in Jewish history. This was very interesting!

Shaina brought out an aspect of the Holocaust I haven’t not spent much time learning about. The Holocaust was one of the most atrocious events of history. The music gave people an outlet to describe the horrors they endured. Shaina informed viewers of the importance of recognizing the Holocaust and its music and the meaning behind the music. Shaina did a wonderful job highlighting the atrocities of the Holocaust and the value of the music produced during the Holocaust.
