In our study of the religion of Jews and Mexicans, we discovered common themes within the two groups. One such theme was the adaptation of the religion to fit into the dominant culture. For the Mexicans, there was a “baptism” of their native faith in order for it to serve the purposes of the Catholic Church. For the Jews, American society entered the Jewish faith and influenced and shaped their practices and beliefs.
