  1. The pictures you took over this past week are phenomenal. The first one taken where there is the word “look” painted on the ground was riveting because I had no idea that New York City has this unique artwork lying around. I thought it was actually ironic that the sidewalk is telling us to “look” to because when walking through the city I tend to keep my gaze downward, when I should really do the opposite and look around me. I’ve noticed that the following pictures are much more blurry, which adds some mystery to the photo. My initial reaction was “what is this?” It is not until I look closely at the photo that i realize that it says “exit” and that the glass objects are vases. Upon looking at your pictures as a whole I realized that the theme seems to be everyday objects/scenes that we may come across but do not pay attention to. The mood that the pictures provoked from me was eerie, because for some of the pictures the background were dark hues of either blue, or yellow or brown.

  2. To answer the question of “the next step” I think the next pictures will be scenes in New York City, i.e. Greenwich village or St. Marx place.

  3. Manal, can you also provide some suggestions or ideas for how she might further develop the project this week? She doesn’t have to accept your ideas, but offering those suggestions might be helpful.

  4. What do I see? the sequel of my Histeria/psychosis album I’ve been collecting for over two years now. And my love for blurry pictures one should peer into is evident. The colors thing emerging with the last photo is partly new, buuut…
Rhytm of this is usually hysteria. So, what I wanna do now is to try to take “simple” pictures with an object (“look” in this case) like the first one being the main point of it, at the same time avoiding “tourist’s” kinda pictures. Or at least (listening to Manal) get out of home and into the city with its life. However, the start of the week (will post it in the evening) didn’t go by the new path. Will try to reevaluate the goal if there would be other suggestions.

  5. Couldn’t brake myself into a different pace. “Histeria” kills everything else, even the other kinds I’ve been usually using. Although there are three NY scenes, “simplisctic” feet photo (the latter is anyway custom for me), and a new cropped thing appeared in the last two photos – my plan for a week haven’t got “there” yet. Blurry blurry world around which has nothing to do with my weak sight. The same color pattern, the same eye. Thew would look well together as one project (I would have trashed couple of them, but I don’t have any other to take their places), that wasn’t a goal. Failure.
I suppose, I will retry to focus on the object/subject itself using this kind of cropping, so that the o/s is highlited and other stuff don’t interfere with it too much.

  6. Sorry Professor Sheehan, i did not see your comment on Sept 16th until today, clearly I need to learn how to navigate this website better. In response to your question. My suggestion for how Asya can further develop her project for the next week is to take more nature pictures. I feel that she has a very keen eye for things for example, the photos she took of the sailboat on water and the plants attracted my attention, because in New York City there are an overwhelming amount of buildings and concrete and not enough nature. With the other pictures such as the electrical outlet and the windowsill I get a gloomy feel; however, against the navy blue waters and the white sailboat I get a more positive feel. I love the contrast between the two moods. I suggest that for every picture you take of infrastructure or the inside of your home you take another one that reflects the nature side of New York City. I think that this contrast will add alot to your project over the next week.

  7. This week your pictures definitely reflect more about you as an artist. In the first week most of your pictures were outside; however, in the second week you started to incorporate more of yourself into the photos. For example, there is a picture of your feet on the ground, and what appears to be a blurry picture of your eye. I suggest that you continue to include yourself in your photos because I feel that it adds a more personal touch. The picture of your feet reminded me of the beach because when I think about the public places where I am barefoot I think about the beach. I also liked the photo of the fog on the window because it added mystery to your photo. I was curious to pinpoint exactly what was external of the window.

  8. So, this week is usual. Although after I read Manal’s comment, I started “myself” and “nature” things – as a result, smile and beach photos were taken.
overall, I tried the “one-picture=one-object” thing, but it was interrupted with the “nature” photo and the one of my “nylone” collection – low contrast one.
Overall, the blurry stuff went somewhere…a little different. I suppose the everyday thing made me go somewhere else, because I don’t always carry a camera around (and not alway’s think of mobile pictures as appropriate ones), and there is just not too much to look at home, get ideas. I just have to look at stuff around me closely.
The next week…I again will try to follow Manal’s advice. I have one “everyday/everyweek” project in my mind, but it’s too time consuming and I just don’t have tme for it right now. Hope will be able to get to it by the end of the semester.
