Today, the Confucius Plaza is a source of prosperity for the local Chinatown economy, serving as the tallest commercial and residential tower in the area. Due to criticism of Confucius’ gender ideas, I realized that there should be a reflection of feminism and gender equality in Chinatown. While generating ideas on how to express gender equality, I decided to see whether there were female philosophers in China. Turns out, Ban Zhao is known to be the first Chinese philosopher, poet and scholar. Therefore, in order to modernize Confucius’ revolutionary ideas, I’d add a statue of Ban Zhao next to the statue of Confucius.
