An important aspect of mental health improvement is dedicating more time outside, especially in nature. Specifically, in urban areas like New York City, where there is not a lot of natural greenery, many parks have been created to provide society with a way to spend more time in nature. This gave people an outlet to improve both their physical as well as their mental health. Especially, in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, parks were often sought out as they were an opportunity to be safely outside when many were confined to their small city homes. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the more people went outside, the happier they appeared to be. Our interest lies in finding scientific proof that the more a person engages in activity outside, the better their mental health will be. With this knowledge, there would be more support to improve parks in local cities.

As Albert Einstein once said, “look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”

We should care about this subject, because with knowledge we can become better advocates for the development of parks in our local cities.
