Given the broad range of characteristics and types that encompass beauty in the Caribbean diaspora and beyond, I found it necessary to go to the places that produce the diaspora’s beauty- the hair salons and beauty supply shops- and gain an understanding about beauty’s true definition. The more I searched, the more I found that beauty is generally perceived not only as a physical trait but as a result of internal strength of character. The beauticians who primp and style the men and women of the diaspora are integral members of the community whose influence over the general public far exceeds that of almost any other memberĀ of the community.
