"Little Italy"

Donna R. Gabaccia discusses the term “Little Italy” in her essay, Inventing “Little Italy.” She explains how the term “rolls off your tongue,” an in my opinion, that phrase serves as the pun which encompasses the term “Little Italy” completely. Because it is so easily and freely spoken, the term evolved at a rapid pace and has no clear-cut definition.
Gabaccia first explains that the term has been used in regards to Italian-American culture. It later was used to define a location. The location is forever moving and to this day may define two specific locations. Tourists think of “Little Italy” as a strip of stores and homes around Mulberry Street while New Yorkers place it in Harlem.
The above image serves as a play on words for the term “Little Italy.” In this case, it literally is a microscopic Italy.
